Swiss Steak

I had some beef in my freezer that looked as close to round steak as I have seen here.  So I took it out and thought "I know just what to make with this!"  I think it's funny this is called "Swiss" Steak when most of the ingredients are Italian but who cares...It tastes great!!  It doesn't take long to get it into the pot but needs to cook slow and low to make the beef fork tender!  It makes the house smell great and makes every one excited for it to come out of the oven!

1½-3 lbs beef round steak
1½-2 c. sliced fresh mushrooms
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 packet dry onion soup
1  envelope brown gravy mix
1 (16oz.) can tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano

Place in oven proof pot, baking dish or slow cooker in order as written in recipe.  Start with your meat first then add.....Mushrooms......

Peppers...........

Dry onion soup mix................

Brown Gravy Mix......................

Tomatoes..................

Bake covered in oven at 300 degrees for 3 hours or slow cooker on low for 8 hours.  Yumm!! it fills the air with a down home smell............

.....I can't wait to eat some!!......time to take it out!

You can serve this with pasta or potatoes!

I'm not in the States to enjoy the entrance of fall (one of my favorite times of the year!) but tonight I felt the cozy feeling it brings while this dish slow cooked in my oven and savoring the flavors as I ate it!
I hope you enjoy this no fuss recipe that is hearty and delicious!!
